Thai Massage is Back!
We have some exciting news at Jazz Hands: Thai Massage is back!
If you've never experienced Thai Massage before, you may be wondering what makes it different from the massage you’re used to. While a traditional table massage often focuses on working directly into muscles with the hands, Thai Massage incorporates assisted stretching, rhythmic pressure, compression, and movement to work with the body in a completely different way.
You may sometimes hear Thai Massage described as a combination of massage and assisted yoga and while that doesn't capture everything about the practice, it gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

What Happens During a Thai Massage?
Thai Massage is traditionally performed while the client remains clothed, with the practitioner guiding the body through different stretches and positions while applying pressure to specific areas of the body.
Instead of remaining completely still throughout the session, your therapist may gently move your arms, legs, hips, or torso through comfortable ranges of motion. The result is a massage that can feel both therapeutic and surprisingly energizing.
And don't worry, you do not need to be flexible to receive Thai Massage! Your therapist works with your body's current range of motion and adjusts the session accordingly.

Why Do People Love Thai Massage?
One of the biggest reasons people seek out Thai Massage is the combination of massage and movement. Research into traditional Thai Massage has found promising evidence that it may help reduce musculoskeletal pain and perceived muscle tension while improving flexibility and physical function. Research has also found improvements in range of motion following Thai Massage, including in people experiencing low-back pain. That can make Thai Massage especially appealing if you regularly feel tight, stiff, or restricted rather than simply wanting a relaxing massage.
It can help you feel less stiff
If you spend hours sitting at a desk, driving, standing at work, exercising, or simply repeating the same movements every day, certain areas of the body can start to feel tight. The assisted stretching used during Thai Massage allows your therapist to gently take your body through movements you may not normally do on your own. For someone who constantly thinks, "I really need to stretch more," this can be an entirely different massage experience.
It may improve flexibility and range of motion
This is one area where Thai Massage really stands apart.
Because stretching and movement are incorporated throughout the session, Thai Massage may help improve flexibility and range of motion. Research on traditional Thai Massage has reported improvements in flexibility, and more recent research involving people with low-back pain has also found improvements in spinal range of motion following treatment. That makes it an interesting option for active clients, dancers, athletes, gym-goers, or anyone who simply wants to feel a little freer in their body.
It may help with muscular aches and tension
Thai Massage isn't just stretching. Your therapist also uses pressure and compression throughout the session to address areas of muscular tension. Studies examining traditional Thai Massage for chronic musculoskeletal pain have reported reductions in pain and perceived muscle tension, although as with other forms of massage the results can vary from person to person.
Massage shouldn't replace appropriate medical care for an injury or persistent pain, but for many people it can be a helpful part of an overall wellness routine.
And yes, it can still be relaxing
With all this talk about stretching and movement, Thai Massage might sound like a workout. It doesn't have to be. The repetitive pressure, slow movements, stretching, and focused one-on-one nature of the session can create a deeply relaxing experience. Rather than the heavy, sleepy feeling some people experience after a traditional relaxation massage, many people enjoy Thai Massage because they leave feeling looser, more mobile, and refreshed.
